Building 4 Our Future was created by Alex Palekar, a high school student, who has a passion for building sustainable housing and plans to attend college for civil engineering. Living in South Florida, she recognized how climate change was impacting our everyday life with high temperatures and flooding along with the associated high energy costs. While volunteering on building projects with Habitat for Humanity, she became aware of the need for better sustainability in housing development as well as the importance of decreasing the cost families would need to pay for electricity. From these observations, came the idea of creating a nonprofit organization that could tackle some of these problems.
Her goal is to partner with companies interested in sustainability to learn firsthand how to build for future generations and to bring these ideas and resources to nonprofit organizations. This would help decrease their carbon footprint by increasing sustainability all while improving quality and affordability. Using everything from existing technology, such as solar paneling, to newer technologies, like 3D printable homes, the possibilities are endless.
